The CLASSROOM OBSERVATION IN ESP: A CASE STUDY OF MECHANICAL ENGINEERING STUDENTS’ EFL COURSE

This research work shed light on classroom observation to measure the implementation of ESP in Mechanical Engineering Course. Two lecturers of this major were observed by the writer during their English instructional classes. There was observation, syllabus document and semi-structured interview used as the instruments by the writer in gathering the data. These data were descriptively analyzed and reported to answer to the issues revealed as the background of the study. The classroom observation indicated that: 1) Both lecturers did not fully implement in their English classes; 2) All the elements of ESP, namely: needs analysis, syllabus design, teaching materials, learning activities, and evaluation needed to be developed and improved by these two lecturers; 3) There were several possible causes that made ESP implementation of these two lecturers became ineffective; a) the policy of the institution which managed English course of all non-English majors in integrated including syllabus design and text-book used, b) this policy made the lecturers difficult to modify their teaching activities and evaluation since the text-book used was not appropriate with students’ needs in this major, c) limited English prior knowledge of the students which made the lecturers hard to come to specific English without firstly equip the students with general English.  

Kualitas Kualitas Video Pembelajaran Teks Eksplanasi Peristiwa 10 November Elemen Membaca dan Memirsa

Abstract: This study aims to describe the quality of the explanatory text learning videos for the events of November 10 based on validity, practicality, and effectiveness. Validity is based on the assessment of material experts and media experts. Practicality based on user assessment and student responses. Effectiveness based on the results of trials in class. This study uses research and development methods. The research model uses ADDIE (Raiser and Mollenda). Data collection instruments use questionnaires and tests. The results of the study show that the learning video of the explanatory text of the events of 10 November has good quality reading and viewing elements. The results of the expert's assessment stated that all aspects of the learning video material were in the very good category (80.68%). The results of the media expert's assessment stated that the learning video design was in the very good category (89.28%). The results of the user assessment stated that all aspects of the learning videos were in the very good category (93%). The results of student responses stated that all aspects of learning videos were in the very good category (83.8%). The trial results stated that all aspects of the learning video were effective and in the very good category (71.42%). Based on data analysis, it can be stated that the learning videos are of high quality and can be used as learning media for explanatory texts on the events of November 10 in class VII-B at SMP Muhammadiyah 17 Surabaya.   Keywords: explanatory text, learning video quality   Abstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan kualitas video pembelajaran teks eksplanasi peristiwa 10 November berdasarkan kevalidan, kepraktisan, keefektifan. Kevalidan berdasarkan penilaian ahli materi dan ahli media. Kepraktisan berdasarkan penilaian pengguna dan respon peserta didik. Keefektifan berdasarkan hasil uji coba di kelas. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode penelitian dan pengembangan. Model penelitian menggunakan ADDIE (Raiser dan Mollenda). Instrumen pengumpulan data menggunakan angket dan tes. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan video pembelajaran teks eksplanasi peristiwa 10 November elemen membaca dan memirsa berkualitas. Hasil penilaian dari ahli menyatakan bahwa seluruh aspek materi video pembelajaran dalam kategori sangat baik (80,68%). Hasil penilaian dari ahli media menyatakan bahwa desain video pembelajaran dalam kategori sangat baik (89,28%). Hasil penilaian dari pengguna menyatakan bahwa seluruh aspek video pembelajaran dalam kategori sangat baik (93%). Hasil respon peserta didik menyatakan bahwa seluruh aspek video pembelajaran dalam kategori sangat baik (83,8%). Hasil uji coba menyatakan bahwa seluruh aspek video pembelajaran efektif dan dalam kategori sangat baik (71,42%). Berdasarkan analisis data dapat dinyatakan bahwa video pembelajaran berkualitas dan dapat digunakan sebagai media pembelajaran teks eksplanasi peristiwa 10 November di kelas VII-B di SMP Muhammadiyah 17 Surabaya.   Kata Kunci: kualitas video pembelajaran, teks eksplanasi

TOKOH PRIBUMI DALAM RELASI BARAT-TIMUR: KAJIAN POSKOLONIAL DALAM NOVEL HELEN DAN SUKANTA KARYA PIDI BAIQ

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah mengungkapkan ambivalensi tokoh pribumi pada masa kolonial dalam Helen dan Sukanta karya Pidi Baiq menggunakan postkolonial sebagai sudut pandang serta implikasinya pada pembelajaran sastra di Sekolah Menengah Atas (SMA). Penelitian ini merupakan jenis penelitian kualitatif deskriptif dengan sumber data novel Helen dan Sukanta karya Pidi Baiq. Melalui sumber data tersebut, diperoleh data yang berupa fenomena dalam novel Helen dan Sukanta karya Pidi Baiq yang mengandung ambivalensi tokoh. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan teknik baca dan catat. Data tersebut kemudian dianalisis dengan teknik analisis data interaktif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan tokoh Sukanta (Ukan) sebagai tokoh pribumi mengalami gejala ambivalensi. Meskipun Sukanta (Ukan) hidup berdampingan bahkan memiliki hubungan yang dekat dengan kaum Belanda serta mampu menggunakan bahasa Belanda, Sukanta (Ukan) tetap dianggap kaum pribumi yang selalu berada di bawah Belanda. Hasil analisis terhadap fenomena kolonialisme dalam novel tersebut selanjutnya dapat digunakan sebagai bahan ajar bahasa Indonesia yang berorientasi pada penguatan karakter kebangsaan.

KONJUNGSI DALAM TEKS PIDATO PERSUASIF KARYA PESERTA DIDIK KELAS IX DI MTsN 1 PESAWARAN TAHUN AJARAN 2022/2023

Penelitian ini bertujuan mendeskripsikan konjungsi dalam teks pidato persuasif karya peserta didik kelas IX di MTsN 1 Pesawaran Tahun Ajaran 2022/2023. Penelitian ini didesain menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode penelitian deskriptif. Teknik pengumpulan data penelitian ini menggunakan teknik tes. Setelah data terkumpul, data diidentifikasi sesuai jenis konjungsi. Kemudian, dianalisis ketepatan dan ketidaktepatan penggunaan konjungsinya. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan terdapat 232 konjungsi dengan 193 data penggunaan konjungsi yang tepat dan 39 data penggunaan konjungsi yang tidak tepat. Data konjungsi tersebut diidentifikasi berdasarkan empat jenis konjungsi. Pertama, konjungsi koordinatif ditemukan sebanyak 109 data dengan 88 data penggunaan konjungsi yang tepat dan 21 data penggunaan konjungsi yang tidak tepat. Kedua, konjungsi subordinatif ditemukan sebanyak 93 data dengan 81 data penggunaan konjungsi yang tepat dan 12 data penggunaan konjungsi yang tidak tepat. Ketiga, konjungsi korelatif ditemukan sebanyak 2 data dengan 1 data penggunaan konjungsi yang tepat dan 1 data penggunaan konjungsi yang tidak tepat. Keempat, konjungsi antarkalimat ditemukan sebanyak 28 data dengan 23 data penggunaan konjungsi yang tepat dan 5 data penggunaan konjungsi yang tidak tepat.

Internalisasi Nilai Religius pada Novel Bidadari Berbisik Karya Asma Nadia di Sekolah Menengah Atas

Internalization is an effort to instill values ​​and norms into a person. The internalization of religious values ​​in the novel Whispering Angel by Asma Nadia in high school is an interesting study to do. The purpose of this study is to describe the internalization of religious values ​​contained in Asma Nadia's novel Whispering Bidadari and describe the learning plan for internalizing religious values ​​contained in Asma Nadia's Whispering Bidadari novel in high school. The method used in this research is descriptive method with a qualitative approach. The results of the study show that there is a religious value in the Whispering Angel novel, namely 1) the relationship between humans and God, 2) the relationship between humans and oneself, 3) the relationship between humans and other humans, and 4) the relationship between humans and nature. Based on the results of the study, religious values ​​in the novel Whispering Angel by Asma Nadia can be internalized to high school students. Teachers can internalize the religious values ​​contained in the novel into students by designing learning competencies and objectives, learning materials or materials, methods, strategies, and learning evaluations. Then, the teacher carries out the learning steps which consist of opening, learning core, and closing.

PERBANDINGAN POLA PENAMAAN MAHASISWA BERDASARKAN LATAR BELAKANG AGAMA, MAKNA, DAN KANDUNGAN PENDIDIKAN KARAKTER

This research aims at (1) analyzing the comparison of Islam and Catholic Students’ names naming pattern based on word class combination and nomenclature pattern, (2) analyzing the comparison of religious background (Islam and Catholic) influence towards Students’ names, (3) analyzing the comparison of Islam and Catholic Students’ names meaning by referring to the references, and (4) analyzing the character building value carried by the names based on the six Pancasila Student Profiles as a reflection of Nation value-based character building. The data of the research are the names of 75 students of State Institute of Islam Religion (IAIN) Ponorogo and 75 students of Education and Teacher Training Institute (STKIP) Widya Yuwana Madiun. The research result shows that based on the word count, most Catholic and Islam names are made of three words with the combination of Adj+N+N for Islam names and N+N+N for Catholic names. Based on the influence of religious background, 35 Islam name reflect Arab language and 52 Catholic names reflect European and Indonesian language. Based on the meaning carried by each names, both Islam and Catholic names convey hope, prayer, and gender marking meanings. Finally, character building values reflected from the names are (1) having faith and fearing God Almighty, and having noble character, (2) global chitizenship, (3) creative.

Nilai Sosial dalam Kumpulan Cerpen Trilogi Alina Karya Seno Gumira Ajidarma dan Rancangan Pembelajaran Bahasa Indonesia di SMA

Abstract: This study aims to describe the social values ​​of Seno Gumira Ajidarma's short story collection Trilogi Alina and its relation to the design of Indonesian language learning in high school. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative.The data source of this research is the short story collection Trilogi Alina by Seno Gumira Ajidarma. The data in this study is qualitative data in the form of words, phrases, and sentences in short stories.The data in this study were collected through text content analysis techniques to describe data regarding social values ​​based on Zubaedi's opinion through Charles Sanders Peirce's semiotic approach with index limits. The results of the study show that the collection of short stories Trilogi Alina by Seno Gumira Ajidarma contains social values, namely caring, devotion, helping, loyalty, kinship, values ​​of belonging, discipline, empathy, justice, and cooperation. The results of this study can be used as a learning design for high school. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan niai-nilai sosial dalam kumpulan cerpen Trilogi Alina karya Seno Gumira Ajidarma dan kaitannya sebagai rancangan pembelajaran Bahasa Indonesia di SMA. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini, yaitu deskriptif kualitiatif. Sumber data yang digunakan, yaitu kumpulan cerpen Trilogi Alina karya Seno Gumira Ajidarma. Data dalam penelitian ini adalah data kualitatif berupa kata, frasa, maupun kalimat dalam cerpen. Data pada penelitian ini dikumpulkan melalui teknik analisis isi teks untuk mendeskripsikan data-data mengenai nilai-nilai sosial berdasarkan pendapat Zubaedi melalui pendekatan semiotika Charles Sanders Peirce dengan batasan indeks. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa dalam kumpulan cerpen Trilogi Alina karya Seno Gumira Ajidarma memuat nilai-nilai sosial, yaitu kepedulian, pengabdian, tolong menolong, kesetiaan, kekeluargaan, nilai rasa memiliki, disiplin, empati, keadilan, dan kerja sama. Hasil penelitian ini dapat dimanfaatkan sebagai rancagan pembelajaran untuk kelas XI SMA.

PEMBENTUKAN KARAKTER KEWIRAUSAHAAN DENGAN KEGIATAN MARKET DAY DI SEKOLAH DASAR SOEKARNO HATTA

The character of students must be able to reflect the culture of the Indonesian nation. The formation of character is very important in the world of education. Education must play a role in forming character in the transformation of knowledge so that Indonesian people are knowledgeable and have character. This study aims to describe the implementation of market day in the formation of entrepreneurial character in students at Soekarno Hatta Elementary School. The methodology in research on the formation of entrepreneurial character through market day activities at Soekarno Hatta Elementary School uses descriptive qualitative methods. This method attempts to describe the phenomena that occur in character building through market day activities. The subjects in this study were teachers and students of Soekarno Hatta Elementary School located at Soekarno Hatta Elementary School, Kotabumi, North Lampung. Data collection was carried out by first observing and semi-structured interviews. Data analysis techniques used data reduction and data triangulation. The results showed that market day activities were activities for forming students' entrepreneurial character values. Entrepreneurial character values ​​formed through market day activities at SD Soekarno Hatta are honest, creative, innovative, disciplined, cooperative, responsible, independent and confident. Entrepreneurial character values ​​can be formed from market day activities in the concept of character education, namely exercise of the heart, exercise of thought, exercise of taste, and exercise.
